Christ Church Newton celebrated its 250th Anniversary in 2019!
Sunday, November 3, 2019
The Rector, the Reverend Canon Robert Griner, reenacted the November 1769 ride by the Reverend Dr. Thomas Chandler from Elizabeth (where he served as Rector) to Sussex County, as well as his December 28, 1769 ride to the Sussex County Court House, where Chandler organized the first Vestry. A commemorative gathering was held at the Court House at 9:00 a.m. which featured the recitation of historical documents followed by a procession to the church. A Choral Eucharist and Baptismal service was held at the church at 10:00 a.m.

Evening Concert, 4:00 p.m.
The Christ Church Senior Choir performed a concert, "Hands Across the Sea," featuring American and British sacred and patriotic music in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of Christ Church and in commemoration of our British heritage.

Evensong, 7:30 p.m.
Evensong, the choral version of the Evening Prayer liturgy used in the Anglican tradition, was sung by the Christ Church Newton Senior Choir. The service used the 1662 version of the Book of Common Prayer as a nod to the parish’s celebration of its 250th anniversary. The Right Reverend Dr. Alan Wilson, Bishop of Buckingham, (Oxford) Church of England preached.

Gala Anniversary Celebration
A Gala Celebration was held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club, 21 The Boardwalk, Sparta, NJ.
The Christ Church Youth Group presented a mock documentary regarding the parish history.
Proclamations were offered by Sylvia Petillo, Deputy Director, Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, New Jersey State Senator Steve Oroho, and Cheryl Krouse, Director of Community Outreach for U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer.
The Right Reverend Dr. Alan Wilson, Bishop of Buckingham, (Oxon) Church of England, and The Most Reverend Julio Murray, Bishop of Panama, Archbishop and Primate of Central America, brought congratulations and best wishes.
The Right Reverend Carlye Hughes, Bishop of the Diocese of Newark, offered the keynote presentation.
A message of congratulations was provided by Archbishop Michael Curry, Primate of the Anglican Church.
