Serving Each Other on Sundays at Christ Church Newton
Christ Church, Newton, offers parishioners many opportunities to serve during Sunday worship. Men, women and children are welcome to volunteer as ushers, lectors, eucharistic ministers, and acolytes.
Ushers are responsible for greeting people at the door, handing out bulletins, taking up the weekly collection, and attending to the individual needs of parishioners.
Lectors help to lead worship by reading aloud the words of the Old and New Testament, as well as the Prayers of the People, during the service.
Eucharistic Ministers assist with the distribution of the body and blood of Christ during communion.
Acolytes assist the Rector at the altar, carry the cross and candles, help with the offertory and other duties.
The Altar Guild cares for the vessels, linens and vestments used during services, and prepares the altar for services on Sundays, holy days, funerals and other occasions.
Coffee Hour hosts prepare and serve food for the weekly reception immediately following the 10:00 a.m. service.
Volunteers with the Sunday Brunch in a Bag program prepare and distribute a bagged lunch to neighbors in need on Sunday mornings.
