Please join us in worship!

Our primary call as Christians is to worship God. All other aspects of the life of a child of God grow from our act of worship. We, at Christ Church, are an inclusive community and are called to respect the dignity of every human being. Our worship is centered around the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion) and reflects our desire to be an open and welcoming community through the presence of persons of all ages. Those who are seeking a church home are greeted warmly by individuals and invited to stay for Coffee Hour immediately following our 10:15 service. Welcoming the stranger (i.e. the visitor) reminds us that we too were once "strangers" looking for a place to call home.

Our
Sunday morning worship schedule is as follows:

8:00 AM

  Holy Eucharist (Rite 1)

9:00 AM

  Christ Education for all ages
10:15 AM   Choral Eucharist (Rite 2)
Coffee Hour in the Fellowship Hall following the 10:15 AM service

Music is an important and vital part of our ministry of worship. The Senior Choir under the direction of Joseph Mello and the Children's Choir directed by Deborah Mello provide musical leadership regularly for the 10:15 service and special services throughout the year.

Children, ages a day old to 100+ years old, are more than welcome in all our services of worship. They are not only welcome - they are encouraged to attend worship services and to participate as they are able.   During the 10:15 service on Sunday mornings, the children join in the Gospel Procession and have their own "sermon time" prior to the Sermon. For those children 6 and under, who are not comfortable for the entire service (approx. 1 hr.), a nursery is provided. Children are not only the "church of tomorrow"; at Christ Church in Newton, NJ they are an active and essential part of the "church of today."

It is our sincere hope that you will find a home at Christ Church. Please come as you are and be ready to be received as you are. We are a diverse and humble people singing for our spiritual lives.  Come join  us in our worship and in our spiritual journey.

What is "The Episcopal Church"?

The
Episcopal Church in the United States is a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. And we, at Christ Church, are a member of the Diocese of Newark.

The Episcopal Church is made up of the essential conditions of both Catholic and Protestant churches. We are a body whose life is nourished by the Sacraments of the Church, and whose ministry of bishops, priests, and deacons follow in the line of succession from the apostles. The Episcopal Church's approach to theology asks that its members NOT check their brains at the door. We are all equal members in our approach to prayer and of our individual and collective experiences of God. This approach provides an open and often exciting dialogue about our understanding of God's presence in the World.

If asked, what does an Episcopalian believe, what would one say? This is a much larger question than we can attempt to answer on this site. The point at which we might begin, however, is the Book of Common Prayer, along with the Nicene and Apostles Creeds. The beliefs of Episcopalians are as diverse as its members - but one thing is certain: we attempt to prepare our Lord's table, and we attempt to make room there for everyone.
